(vasep.com.vn) Ca Mau is actively implementing sustainable and environmentally friendly shrimp farming models such as shrimp–mangrove and shrimp–rice systems in order to enhance the value and competitiveness of its exported shrimp. The province is focusing on the application of international standards such as ASC, BAP, GlobalGAP, and Organic to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of international markets.

(vasep.com.vn) At present, the total aquaculture area in Ca Mau is approximately 300,000 hectares, of which around 280,000 hectares are dedicated to shrimp farming. The province has identified the development of aquaculture in harmony with nature—without chemicals, without genetically modified organisms, and with minimized adverse environmental impacts—as a strategic direction.

As of the end of 2024, the province had approximately 22,590 hectares of shrimp farming areas certified under international standards, primarily under the shrimp–mangrove and shrimp–rice models. Notably, the shrimp–mangrove model in Tan An Tay Commune (Ngoc Hien District) was granted the “ASC Group Certification” by Bureau Veritas - representing the first and largest group certification for the shrimp–mangrove model in Viet Nam and worldwide.

Ngoc Hien District alone currently has nearly 11,500 hectares of internationally certified shrimp–mangrove farming, with more than 2,370 participating households. According to local farmers, shrimp farming under ASC certification helps minimize environmental impacts, ensures compliance with labor standards, and effectively meets the requirements of importing markets.

In the coming period, Ca Mau will continue to expand internationally certified farming areas in Thoi Binh, Cai Nuoc, and Phu Tan districts, among others, with a view to developing a sustainable and environmentally friendly shrimp value chain.
